WINTER FESTIVAL

@ Michigan Central Station, Detroit

Ford is hosting a FREE 10 Day festival in Corktown. The festival will also include graffiti painting, live performances, s’mores, food trucks and beverage stations, ice carving, vendor booths, kids’ activities and a Michigan Central Station history and artifacts exhibition curated by the Detroit Historical Society.

 

NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW

SESAME STREET LIVE! MAKE YOUR MAGIC

Everyone’s invited on an amazing journey with Elmo to discover the “power of yet” in Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic. Building on a successful tour with Feld Entertainment’s inaugural Sesame Street Live! show last season in partnership with the non-profit educational organization Sesame Workshop, this production features favorite Sesame Street pals Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird and more in a brand-new, magical adventure live on stage. Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic visits Detroit from 16 performances at the Fox Theatre from Thursday, January 24 to Saturday, February 2.

 

US FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP

@ Little Caesars Arena, Detroit

U.S. Figure Skating announced the selection of Detroit, Michigan, as the host city for the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Jan. 19-27, 2019. All junior free skate/dance and championship level events will be held at the newly opened Little Caesars Arena and all junior short programs/dance, novice, intermediate and juvenile events will take place at the Detroit Skating Club.

 

OWL’S WINTER

A delightful collection of stories for young children based on Arnold Lobel’s “Owl at Home.” A first introduction to theater especially created to draw young theater goers into the world of theater arts with these carefully chosen and shaped stories. Part of our Classic Series for ages 3-8.

Bloomfield Winter Park is a revitalization of the Farm Activity Building on the property of the Bowers School Farm! There will be activities and programs planned each day the Winter Park is open, along with concession items available for purchase. If the winter weather is favorable, we are planning on sledding and ice skating (bring your own sled & ice skates).

DETROIT CITY CHESS CLUB OPEN PLAY

Join the Detroit City Chess Club in their regular Friday meet-ups in Prentis Court. Watch as these young players hone their craft or even sit down to test your own skills. Open play takes place most Fridays throughout the year.

Join us with your child as we explore winter at the SNC. Children will read a snowman story, receive snowman dress up kits and do some fun winter explorations. If snow conditions permit, we will make a snowman outside. Program will run with or without snow. Dress for the winter weather!

If you need a minute to warm yourself, stop by our fire ring for hot dogs and marshmallows (we’ll provide the roasting sticks). We’ll also have winter inspired crafts and hot chocolate available inside the building.

Our Polar Party features winter-themed activities for the whole family! No snowshoe experience is needed. A hike will be substituted if there is not enough snow to use snowshoes. Boots are required to snowshoe, and snow pants are recommended.
