Top Things To Do With KIDS In May in Metro Detroit

Spring has sprung, warm weather is here to stay (we hope) and we couldn’t be more excited to get out and play and explore! Here are some of our favorite events happening in May.
See Dinosaurs Come to Life
We have GREAT news for dino lovers – the pre-historic reptiles will be easy to find in May. The Dino & Dragon Stroll is at Canterbury Village from May 19th to 29th and the can’t miss Dinosauria returns to the Detroit Zoo on May 28th for a summer run.
Free Comic Book Day
We love free and we especially love Free Comic Book Day! Let your littles gear up for a trip to a local comic book store to stock up on free reads and cool activities on Saturday, May 7th.
Day Out With Thomas
All aboard! A Day Out With Thomas returns to Greenfield Village May 13th – 22nd for springtime fun including train rides, live entertainment, hands-on activities and more. If you can’t make that event but still need a little train ride, Great Lakes Steamers offer free rides at Starr Jaycee Park and Southgate Train Park (donations are appreciated).
Flower Day Returns
The traditional, Sunday Flower Day event returns to Eastern Market after a two-year hiatus on Sunday, May 15th. Stock up on colorful blooms and greenery for indoors and out.
Cranbrook On The Green
Enjoy a friendly game of minature golf at Cranbrook Art Museums new outdoor art-inspired 10-hole course, opening May 25th.
Monroe Street Midway
Strap on some skates and head to Monroe Street Midway downtown (close to Campus Martius) for some throwback fun. The 2022 season begins Memorial Weekend.
Get Ready For Summer with Swim Safety
May is National Water Safety Month and an important reminder about the dangers of drowning for young children. Prepare for a safe summer and check out Aqua-Tots Swim School – the first class is FREE!
Make A Splash At Aquarium Adventure Trail
Start summer off right with a trip to the Toledo Zoo. Not only are there plenty of animal exhibits to visit (including elephants!), you can go on a train ride or an aerial adventure, let the kids run around Nature’s Neighborhood and cool off at the Aquarium Adventure Trail splash pad!
Take Part In A Pirate Adventure
Set sail to Auburn Hills and get ready for a pirate adventure at SEA LIFE Michigan and LEGOLAND Discovery Center. Search for treasures, take part in pirate challenges and have lots of family fun at Great Lakes Crossings.
Find A Festival
There are dozens of festivals and fairs in June and July but if you can’t wait to celebrate, here are festivals happening in May.
