Tony Hawk Helps Open NEW Chandler Skate Park In Detroit

Tony Hawk and his non-profit organization The Skatepark Project have helped open another new skate park in Detroit, this time at Chandler Park on the city’s eastside.

The 15,000 square foot skate park at Chandler Park is open to the public and free to use. The newest addition to the Detroit skateboard scene was built with support from a $150,000 grand from Tony Hawk’s The Skatepark Project. The project also received over $50,000 in funding from a Patronicity fundraiser that had 200 supporters.

To help kids learn to skate the Quicken family has provided funding to the Chandler Park Conservancy for a 6-week youth skateboarding program that will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the summer. They also will be providing skateboards, helmets, and pads for the youth to use.

The skatepark joins a host of other amenities at Chandler Park including the Wayne County Family Aquatic Center, multiple athletic fields, public golf course, and fitness zone. The Wayne County Family Aquatic Center is located next to the skatepark and open Wednesdays through Sundays for the 2022 season. The splash pad features a wave pool, two waterslides and a children’s splash pad.
