The Henry Ford’s new Driven to Win: Racing in America exhibit was meant for the Motor City.
Take your car lovers and little racers to check out the coolest cars to make it to the winner’s circle and often changed the world in the process. The new permanent exhibit takes you through the twists and turns of American racing history and introduces you to the men and women who engineered world-changing innovations and defined the sport of racing.
With nearly two dozen new cars, 24 interactive spaces and multiple diver simulators kids and parents will have a blast. There’s lots to see but he’s what you won’t want to miss:
- Motorsports Performance Training: Race car drivers are athletes, and rigorous fitness routines are a crucial part of any driver’s training. This section of Driven to Win uniquely illustrates the physical and mental exercises drivers use to prepare for race day. Test your motor skills and ability to make the split-second decisions that are often the difference between winning and losing.
- In the Driver’s Seat: This 15-minute simulator experience, presented by Brembo, offers the chance for visitors to drive the world’s fastest cars on the most challenging tracks. How? Driven to Win features six interlinked, full-motion racing simulators with the latest technologies — just like the modern pros use for training. Strap in for high-octane exhilaration. Additional fee required.
- Igniting the Passion: The things we do when we’re young can inspire a lifelong passion, and this exhibit area showcases many stories from people who’ve had gasoline in their veins since they were kids. From soap box derby, tether and slot cars to Lego kits, video games and Quarter Midget racing, there are countless ways to become enchanted with competition.
The Henry Ford museum is open daily from 9:30am to 5pm. Admission to the Henry Ford is $25 for adults and $19 for children ages 5 to 11.
