Put the  Edsel & Eleanor Ford House on your summer must list to explore the gardens, attend a class and check out the brand-new lakeside Visitor Center! 

 

The new 40,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Visitor Center opens to the public on Wednesday, May 26th and offers permanent and travelling exhibits, indoor and outdoor class room space and gathering space for special events. Learn more about the Ford family in the interactive exhibit and gallery and see Edsel’s work first hand in the Driven By Design display that features 3 rare vehicles. After you’ve seen what innovative cars looked like in the 30s, check out what to expect in the years to come in The Future of Movement exhibit.

 

Before you head out to explore the grounds and the Ford House, enjoy a family meal at The Continental, the brand-new restaurant offers seating both inside and on the lakeside patio. For those looking for a quick snack or items for a picnic, The Speedster offers grab and go options, including sweet and savory treats.

 

The grounds of the Ford House are picture perfect at all times of year but the summer is extra special as you can stroll through the gardens and watch boats on Lake St. Clair is Pure Michigan.

Storytime // Tuesdays June 1, 8 + 15

It’s time for a story at Ford House! June means summer and this month we are reading “Summer Song” by Kevin Henkes and illustrated by Laura Dronzek. After the story, spend the day exploring the Ford House grounds. Storytime is free but space is limited and advance registration is required. This program will be best for families with children 8 and under.

 

Science Saturdays // June 5th

Bring the whole flock to Ford House to see amazing live raptors from Leslie Science & Nature Center. Discover owls, hawks, and more. Come prepared with questions about your favorite birds of prey, as they model their amazing survival characteristics and techniques. Sessions will be held at 10:30am, 11:30am and 12:30pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for kids.

 

Chalk the Walk // June 19th

Bring your kids to experience some good, old-fashioned fun outdoors decorating our many paved pathways at Ford House. Spend the day together making chalk drawings and playing outside! Every child visiting the grounds gets a free pack of chalk. You may also bring your own chalk. Afterward, run, twirl and play on our beautiful grounds and gardens. A grounds pass is $5 for adults and kids 6 and up, free for children 5 and under.

 

Story Studio // Tuesdays, June 22 + 29

This summer explore different parts of Ford House every week with a new story and art project. Snacks provided! This program will be best for families with children 8 and under. The same story and art project will be at both times so please register for the one time that works best for you. Cost is $5 per child and adults are free.

 

Explorer Series // Thursdays in June

Come curious and ready to investigate a new aspect of our natural world each week. The program will include a classroom experiment and a walking portion of the property. Recommended for families with children ages 6-10. Cost: $2 per person.
