If you are looking for something to do to celebrate Black History Month, take a visit to The Wright Museum of African American History in Midtown Detroit.
For over half a century, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History has dedicated itself to exploring and celebrating the rich cultural legacy of African Americans. Its permanent exhibit, ‘And We Still Rise’ takes visitors on a powerful through time starting across the ocean in Africa and ending in present day. You can’t help but walk through it with strong emotions. Some families may feel that the emotions are too strong for young children but it’s a great way to start conversations about hard issues.
A new interactive exhibit about the Tuskegee Airman is great for aviation lovers of all ages. The modern display has touch screen activities throughout – guests are given a sanitized touch pen to use during the visit. Learn about suffragist leaders and political activists in the temporary Voting Matters exhibit. Both exhibits are fun to explore and educational.
Museum tickets can be reserved in advance online. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children.
If you’re not ready for an in-person visit, tune in online Wednesdays at 6pm throughout the month of February to watch Detroit Association of Black Storytellers present a selection of personal and historical narratives aimed at youth and families.

- Sunday: 12pm to 5pm
Parking: When you visit the museum you can park in front of the museum on Warren Avenue (download the ParkDetroit App) or at the DIA’s gated lot off John R Street behind the museum. The parking lot has a flat rate of $7.
