Now that Labor Day has passed and school is in full swing, we know fall is on its way. It’s time to say goodbye to the refreshing watermelons and hello to delicious apples. Whether you pick an apple from a tree, or grab a dozen from the store, this fall favorite (packed with Vitamin C and fiber) can be enjoyed anytime of the day- and might even keep the doctor away!

Like most parents, my breakfasts are usually quick and easy, especially during the weekday. With an abundance of apples, I can be sure to sweeten up my morning (and the kids) by adding apple to almost anything. From a piece of toast to cereal, adding a bit of apple can ensure a happy way to start the day. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Cottage cheese with chopped apples
  • Oatmeal or cereal with chopped apples
  • Parfait with layers of yogurt, granola and chopped apples
  • Diced apple on pancakes or waffles
  • Open face apple topped with nut or nut-free butter and cereal on top

As easy as it is to eat an apple whole, it’s fun to be creative and think outside of the “lunch” box. Not only will your kids like the creative ways to eat apples, but, by having the apple within the main part of the meal ensures that they are eating their fruit and getting the necessary health benefits. Here are some ideas:

When dinner time rolls around, I’m all about a getting a meal ready in less than 30 minutes. With extra apples on hand, I’ll be sure to put an apple twist to the most basic meals.

Whether it’s breakfast or dinner, or even dessert or a snack, apples are a delicious and nutritious way to make it feel and taste like fall.
