Don’t miss out on the Monroe Street Midway. The downtown destination is open through Sunday, September 25th and will offer FREE skating during Labor Day Weekend.

The Monroe Street Midway presented by Bedrock and RollerCade (the nation’s oldest Black-owned roller rink), continues to host open skate hours for the public during the fall. Roller skating costs $13 per person and includes skate rental. Walk-ins are welcome but you can also reserve your time online here.

Visitors can skate for FREE during Labor Day Weekend, walk ups only and first come, first serve. Additional holiday festivities include airbrushing, face painting, balloon art, live DJ sets and jazz music streamed from the Detroit Jazz Fest. Enjoy complimentary treats (corn dogs and elephant ears) on Sunday at noon while supplies last. Holiday hours are listed below:

  • Friday & Saturday: 11 am – 11 pm
  • Sunday & Monday: 11 am – 9 pm

Midway hours effective Wednesday, September 7th:

  • Monday & Tuesday: Closed
  • Wednesday: 3 pm – 9 pm
  • Thursday & Friday: 3 pm – 11 pm
  • Saturday: 11 am – 11 pm
  • Sunday: 11 am – 9 pm

In addition to skating, families can play basketball at the Rocket Mortgage Sports Zone and enjoy a family meal from local food trucks. New this year, Come Play Detroit is hosting a 9-hole miniature golf course.

FREE parking is available to skaters. Park at one of these participating garages and receive up to 4 hours of validated parking.

YMCA BIG Block Party (Saturday, September 10th)

Celebrate 170 years of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit at Boll Family YMCA for a FREE community event (no membership required). There will be a Kid DJ, Disney characters, inflatable obstacle course, family games and more.

Parktoberfest (September 10th & 11th)

Parktoberfest at Campus Martius Park and features two full days of fun this side of Bavaria, including live music, games, as well as craft seasonal and Oktoberfest biers and other fall favorites. The event also features a Root Biergarten offering kid-friendly beverages and delicious floats for FREE courtesy of Faygo.

Check Out The Sugar Factory

The Sugar Factory’s glamorous and Instagrammable dining rooms, over-the-top entrees and legendary desserts are now in downtown Detroit. Check out the one-of-a-kind dining experience and stop in for sweet treats at the retail store that features a floor-to-ceiling candy wall.
