Looking for inspiration + ideas for things to do with kids in Metro Detroit? Tried and true suggestions that real moms actually do? Here they are! Hungry Howie’s appreciates Moms and joins LittleGuide Detroit in spotlighting a local Mom each week in the #MomLife series. To take one thing off her plate and give her more time for fun, Hungry Howie’s is giving each week’s featured Mom a free pizza dinner for her and her family to enjoy. Thank you Hungry Howie’s for being the Official Pizza of Moms.
Are you following @sarahkcottrell on Instagram? Local mom Sarah is currently a full-time stay-at-home mom who loves exploring metro Detroit with her two kiddos.
Hi! I’m Sarah, mom of Wilson (3 years) and Frankie (4 months). We moved back to Michigan last year after starting our family in Chicago. My career background is in politics, government, and nonprofit advocacy, but after Wilson was born I decided to pause my public affairs career for a grand Stay at Home Mom adventure (here are some words I wrote about it on LinkedIn that traveled pretty far!). It continues to be the hardest and best job I’ve ever taken on, and I share lots of thoughts on it over @sarahkcottrell. I am always looking for more mom friends and fun things to do during the week, so don’t be shy to send me a message!
Favorite Ways To Spend Family Time:

- Pizza/Movie Night (Sundays at our house!)

Favorite Bedtime Stories:
Favorite Family Friendly Restaurants:
Best Park/Playground: Milliken State Park (Detroit)
We love Milliken State Park for the playground with a cityscape backdrop, walking trails and views of the water.
Best Family-Friendly Annual Event: Wild Lights at the Detroit Zoo (Royal Oak)
We love Zoo Lights! Being members of the Detroit Zoo has been such a treat to our family the whole year round.
Your Mom Must-Have: A Stroller Fan + Mom Support Group
Tangible thing? A stroller fan for the baby and also me (postpartum summer is no joke)! Non-tangible thing? A group text with fellow moms to ask the questions you are scared to ask on internet mom groups 🙂
Best Winter Destination or Event: Sledding at Valade Park (Detroit)
We try to get outside once a day, even in the depths of Winter! We love finding new sledding hills around town, and the sledding hill plus sled shed at Valade Park (and the fire pit) is pretty sweet.
“Pat Yourself on the Back” Accomplishment: Earning my Masters Degree!
Earning my Masters Degree in Political Management from George Washington University, and the amazing experiences I had during my two years there, including volunteering with First Lady Michelle Obama’s office.
