Meet Robin

My name is Robin Kinnie and I am the proud mom of 3 kiddos, ages 10, 8, and 4. I have the pleasure of leading Motor City Woman Studios and Audio Engineers of Detroit, two recording studios specializing in the production of podcasts, audiobooks, and voiceovers. I started my journey as an entrepreneur while pregnant with my third child, so I am here to say that moms can do anything! I knew I wanted to spend more quality time with my kiddos. I was able to create a life where work is scheduled around family time and not the other way around. Has it been easy? Heck, no! But, with organization, family support, and determination; I’ve been able to create the life of my dreams.

Favorite Ways To Spend Family Time:

  • Just Dance video game
  • Family walks around the neighborhood
  • Baking family favorites like pound cake and banana nut bread

Favorite Places To Go:

Favorite Bedtime Stories:

Best Park/Playground: Hines Park (Westland)

Since the pandemic, we have been on the hunt for new parks like most families. We’ve been loving Hines Park in Westland for the sledding hills. It’s great for all ages and there is plenty of space to spread out.

Best Family-Friendly Annual Event: Noel Night (Detroit)

Our family likes anything that’s hands-on. Every year, we head to midtown Detroit for Noel Night. It doesn’t get any better than perusing cultural hotspots, taking in live music, and creating art.

Your Mom Must-Have: My Calendar

I would be lost without my calendar. I have a tracking system that includes everything from doctor appointments to client meetings. I place holds in my calendar specifically for family favs like pizza nights and dance competitions on Just Dance.

Best Spring Destination or Event: Local Farmers Markets

Living in Michigan, we appreciate each of the four seasons. After a long winter inside, we head outdoors when the temperature starts to rise. We like local farmer markets where we can discover new vendors, try new foods, and listen to music. Sometimes we stay within our neighborhood or go to Eastern Market. It’s great to see my kids enjoy the same destinations as I did as a child growing up in Detroit.

“Pat Yourself on the Back” Accomplishment: Survive & Thrive During the Pandemic

One personal accomplishment that makes me proud is how I’ve been able to not only survive but thrive, over the last year. The pandemic mashed up my business, motherhood, and well-being into one big explosion. Instead of focusing on the obstacle, I concentrated on the opportunity. I created new digital and physical products, streamlined my kids’ virtual learning schedule around client work, and put myself at the top of my “to-do” list.
