Meet Lindsay

Hi! I’m Lindsay Schey. I have two little ones, Miles (4) and Sloane (2), and am married to my husband, Jon. We live in Birmingham. I am also the founder and gift expert of The Gift Insider, a gifting resource that helps users find hand-selected and creative gift ideas. I started the brand 12 years ago and it has evolved and changed as my life and lifestyle has as well. In addition to sharing my favorite gift ideas, I also share ideas for celebrating all life’s happy moments and a lot of fun finds for the kiddos as well.

Favorite Ways To Spend Family Time:

  • Walking into town (Birmingham) with the kids, a stop at Booth Park and a quick dinner
  • Lake days in the Summer
  • Park nights that end with a walk to Dairy Deluxe

Favorite Places To Go:

Favorite Bedtime Stories:

Favorite Family Friendly Restaurants:

Best Park/Playground: Howarth + St. James Parks (Birmingham)

We live right by Howarth and St. James park in Birmingham, so we are at one of those parks almost every day. Especially during covid, we have been so grateful for these parks. We have had birthday parties there, music classes, workout classes, Friday night pizza parties – it’s truly one of our favorite parts about living where we live.

Best Family-Friendly Annual Event: All Things FALL!

Fall is hands down my favorite season. We love seeing the leaves change at Heritage park, or walking around Cranbrook gardens and grounds. We also make sure to head to Zoo Boo, Blake’s Farms, and Erwins each fall. We checked out Three Cedars last year too which was pretty great.

Your Mom Must-Have: A Phone Strap

Get a phone strap! Right after my son was born, I got one of the Bandolier credit card holder/iPhone cases with a strap and it was a game-changer. It holds your credit cards and ID, you can clip your keys right on and it pretty much has made it so I don’t need to carry a purse anytime I’m running out of the house, going for a walk, or heading to a music class.

Best Winter Destination or Event: Blake’s Farm (Armada)

We went to Blakes last year in the heart of winter and LOVED it. The kids got to ice skate and after we had a great meal (and cider flights!) in an igloo. They rent skates there for all levels and make it really easy and fun to spend the day there.

“Pat Yourself on the Back” Accomplishment: Balancing Work + Parenting

When my son was born, my priorities really shifted and I decided to only work part-time. I go to my office 2-3 days a week depending on the time of year. To be able to do this, I’ve really gotten better about saying no to things that I don’t feel are worth time away from my family and I only take on projects and partnerships that I think can really advance my business. I travel less and I’ve also changed my business model around a bit so it can work with a part-time schedule. I love that I can be home with my kids some days and do drop-offs or play dates and the others days I can get dressed, interact with adults, and work on my business. The balance is a constant struggle, I think it’s near impossible to really master it, but I’m proud of myself and of my business for trying.
