Looking for inspiration + ideas for things to do with kids in Metro Detroit? Tried and true suggestions that real moms actually do? Here they are! Hungry Howie’s appreciates Moms and joins LittleGuide Detroit in spotlighting a local Mom each week in the #MomLife series. To take one thing off her plate and give her more time for fun, Hungry Howie’s is giving each week’s featured Mom a free pizza dinner for her and her family to enjoy. Thank you Hungry Howie’s for being the Official Pizza of Moms.

Hi! I’m Laura Clair. In addition to being a full time working mom, I’m also the co-owner of Michigan Cornhole with my husband, Joe. We run cornhole leagues and events bringing people together throughout the state to throw some bags and have some fun!
We’ve been married for 5 years and after struggling with infertility for several years were blessed to have our daughter Sophie in 2018. It’s hard to believe she will be starting preschool in the fall already! It’s flying by SO fast. We also have a lovable 5 year old golden retriever at home named Murphy, who enjoys the fact that toddlers drop a lot of food on the ground!
This year as a family we are attempting to complete the @1000hoursoutside challenge as an effort to get outside and explore more. The goal of 1000 hours outside is an attempt to match nature time with screen time. We’re 146/1000 hours in, so odds are, we’re currently spending time outdoors! Favorite Ways To Spend Family Time:
- Spending Time outside as a part of our “1000 hours outside” goal for 2021
- Weekly Movie Night
- Trying new activities from LittleGuide Detroit’s “Top Things To Do” list!
Favorite Places To Go:
Favorite Bedtime Stories:
- Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae
- I’d Know You Anywhere, My Love by Nancy Tillman
- Goodnight Moon by Margeret Wise Brown
Favorite Family-Friendly Restaurants:
Best Park/Playground: Exchange Park (Royal Oak)
We live in Royal Oak and are very close to Exchange Park so we frequent it a lot, but our new goal is to check out every one of the Royal Oak Neighborhood Parks and rate them! We recently visited Sullivan Park for the first time and it was 5/5!
Best Family-Friendly Annual Event: Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village (Dearborn)
Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village is a must for us every year! Walking around with a hot chocolate and taking in the smells of roasting chestnuts and warming bonfires and the sounds of carolers singing holiday favorites. Take a ride on the carousel and make sure to stop and see Santa & his reindeer!
Your Mom Must-Have: A good wagon!
We’ve been loving our Evenflo Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon for trips to the zoo or other events – it can be used like a stroller or wagon and it folds up for easy transport. Also, with a toddler – always making sure to have wipes (how are they always so dirty?!) and snacks on board!
Best Summer Destination or Event: Traveling Up North
We love traveling up north in the Summertime – we go camping in Traverse City at the State Park for a week every year. There are tons of family friendly activities in the area. When we’re not at the beach, we love biking on the Tart Trail and stopping at The Filling Station for some pizza or Pirates Cove for some putt-putt golf!
“Pat Yourself on the Back” Accomplishment: Supporting Myself + Others Through Infertility
My road to motherhood was not easy and I am so proud of myself for openly sharing about my infertility journey. Infertility can be very isolating, so sharing publicly about going through the IVF process was very important to me. It has been extremely fulfilling to have people feel comfortable reaching out to me throughout the years to share stories and saying my candidness helped them realize that they weren’t alone in their struggles on the path to motherhood.
Our #MomLife Series is Presented by Hungry Howie’s – the Official Pizza of Moms!
