Meet Karina

Hello! My name is Karina Coateston and I am a mom of two adventurous boys, Jaylen (7) and Julian (4). I was born in Detroit, raised in Oak Park. I love practicing photography with my littles while exploring our amazing state of Michigan, which I document on my personal Instagram page @Kayyyy_cee. I also have recently started a YouTube channel where I share hilarious and relatable storytime videos.

Favorite Ways To Spend Family Time:

  • Grabbing lunch and enjoying the Detroit Riverfront
  • Visiting one of the many state parks for a family walk
  • Watching a movie

Favorite Recipes:

Best Park/Playground: Inglenook Park (Southfield)

Our favorite park is Inglenook Park on 12 Mile in Southfield. This was my favorite park as a child when it was made out of wood. It’s huge, offers a safe play area for all ages, and it’s convenient for us because it’s right behind Nana’s house!

Best Family-Friendly Annual Event:  Michigan State Fair (Novi)

The Michigan State Fair because who doesn’t love the fair?! Cotton candy, clowns, circus animals…it’s an all-around fun time.

Your Mom Must Have: Backpack

My go-to must-have is a stylish backpack. This can double as a purse to hold your personal items but also as a bag for the kids for snacks, extra clothes, and mostly masks!

Best Winter Destination: Wayne County Lightfest (Westland)

Our favorite winter family holiday event is the Wayne County Lightfest Holiday Light Display in Westland. It’s our tradition to put up the Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving, grab some hot chocolate, and drive through this inexpensive night show with our pajamas on! Sometimes we even stop at the end to take pictures with Santa!

“Pat Yourself on the Back” Accomplishment: Obtained a Masters Degree In Health Administration

I am proud of myself for going back to school to obtain my master’s degree in health administration. After I received my bachelor’s from Eastern Michigan University, I battled back and forth with myself if I wanted to continue school. Last year, I took that leap and enrolled at Maryville University. I wanted to show my boys that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and don’t let anything or anyone stop you. I will be completely done with my program in August 2021!
