My name is Monifah and I’m mom to the most incredible toddler, Jaxon, who is 1 year old. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and consider myself to be a city girl! My blog — MonifahSymone focuses on the beauty of motherhood, life experiences that many can resonate with, relationships, and sometimes fashion. I recently launched my press-on nail business called Flaunting Presses, for all of those who love to show off their nails without the hassle of going to the salon but still looking as if they get a professional manicure anyway! Best Park/Playground: Belle Isle (Detroit) 

The best local park that my family and I enjoy going to is Belle Isle Park. We love relaxing by the water and looking at Canada in disbelief that it’s really that close. Much of my time is spent eating all of the snacks and capturing the moment of family time using my camera.

 

Best Family-Friendly Annual Event: Visiting Our Favorite Cider Mill 

During the fall season, my family gets together to visit Franklin Cider Mill or Yates Cider Mill to enjoy yummy cider and donuts!

 

Your Mom Must-Have: Sesame Street

To help make parenting easier for me, I enjoy turning on Sesame Street for my son to educate him and keep him entertained while I’m cooking in the kitchen. He loves it and I’m able to finish dinner in no time!

 

Best Winter Destination: Detroit Tree Lighting

My favorite winter event would be going downtown for the Detroit Christmas Tree lighting. It’s always amazing to see every year.

 

“Pat Yourself on the Back” Accomplishment: Completing My Master’s Degree As A New Mom

Being able to complete my Master’s program full-time while becoming a mother all at the same time. I’m still amazed that I graduated in a year all while caring for a baby! It feels unreal that it happened that fast.
