Do you need ideas for activities to do with kids? Tried and true suggestions that real moms actually do? Here they are! We’re asking families to share their favorites, to help you find yours.
Here at LittleGuide Detroit we want to make parenting a little easier by helping you quickly find great activities and events to do with your kids. Our friends at Detroit Mom want to make motherhood a little easier by offering support resources and stories to connect with. We love connecting with Detroit Mom founder Beth and know you will too!
Hi. My name is Elizabeth Lewis and I’m the Owner/Founder of Detroit Mom. Detroit Mom is a community for moms and moms-to-be to connect with each other and resources within the community. We strive to keep it real and honest by sharing topics that women face in motherhood + life in general. The heart of Detroit Mom is creating a community that is inclusive and diverse. Sharing relatable stories from women of all backgrounds + stages of life. I have four little people (well one big and three littles), Lauren (19), Harper (8), Nolan (4), and Maryn (1). Our life over here is crazy and chaotic AND I wouldn’t change a thing.
Favorite Ways To Spend Family Time:
Walking and bike riding the trails in metro Detroit
Pizza + movie night
Favorite Places To Go:
Favorite Bedtime Stories:
Lasagna from Livonia Italian Bakery (by far the best lasagna around)
- Low-Carb Zucchini Lasagna Roll-Ups
Best Playground: Heritage Park (Farmington Hills)
For our family this is a one stop shop for all the things. The park is great, there are 4.5 miles of trails, a hill the kids can run up and down, a splash pad and fun fall festivities.
Best Movie/Telelvision Shows: Secret Life of Pets 2
I’m certain we’ve watched this movie over a hundred times and can recite almost every single word. It is the cutest movie, ever! Everything from the adorable animals to the celebrity voices. Not to mention it’s sure to pull at your mama heartstrings when Liam goes off to school.
Best Annual Event: Farmington Farmers Market
Every single year we wait for the Farmington Farmers Market to open and our weekly trips to begin. We don’t miss a Saturday unless we are out of town. It’s been our Saturday tradition for nearly seven years. Petey’s Donuts is our first stop before heading to the pavilion to play games, listen to music and dance. They also have amazing stuff for kids to do, the produce is out of this world and the vendors are the absolute best. This is one market everyone needs to check out.
Best Life-Saver: Jean Jacket
Hands down a jean jacket. You can dress it up or dress it down. It’s stylish, comfortable and a wardrobe must have. It’s just one of those things that all moms need in their closet. I may or may not have an abundance of jean jackets.
Best Summer Destination: Lakeport
Thanks to Covid, my family and I discovered Lakeport one weekend when we were desperate to get out and drive. We decided to head towards Port Huron and enjoy the view of Lake Huron. As we drove we came upon Lakeport and instantly fell in love. We grabbed a bite to eat at Lakeshore Smokehouse (the food is insanely good) and stopped into Lakeport State Park where we spent the day walking the beach and hiking the trails. We’ve been back three times since that day and we plan on making it a yearly family tradition. There’s just something incredible about being on the water.
