Looking for inspiration + ideas for things to do with kids in Metro Detroit? Tried and true suggestions that real moms actually do? Here they are! We’re asking local Metro Detroit families to share their favorites, to help you find yours.
Are you following @sugarbychanelle on Instagram? Chanelle is a local mom and the founder and owner of Sugar Girl, a local online clothing boutique. Sugar Girl has stylish and comfy mom-tested and mom-approved clothing for women of all shapes and sizes so be sure to check it out!
Hi! I’m Chanelle. I’m the mom of a perfectly hilarious 2-year-old girl named Zola. It was after giving birth to Zola and having a really tough delivery and bouts of postpartum depression that I started Sugar Girl, a comfy clothes boutique geared toward moms and women with body issues. I had a hard time adjusting to my new mom body that included diastasis recti (abdominal separation) so I decided to find clothing that made me feel better in my new very different body. Now I serve women all over the country by providing them with comfortable clothing options that still feel fashionable. You can learn more about us at @shopsugargirl or www.shopsugargirl.com.

Best Park/Playground: Belle Isle (Detroit)
Zo and I love Belle Isle. We get to check out all the wildlife on the island, and there are some great playscapes there too. When she was a baby, I would drive around the island to put her to sleep, now she gets to enjoy the sights too!
Best Family-Friendly Annual Event: Detroit Jazz Festival (Detroit)
The Jazz Fest is my favorite annual Detroit event. There’s nothing like listening to music from all over the world on Detroit’s beautiful riverfront. You can’t beat the food either. Growing up my mom would take my sisters and me to all of the music festivals in Detroit, and now I get to share these moments with my daughter.
Your Mom Must-Have: Girls Night Out!
My go-to mom must-have is time with my girls! We frequently hit the Calexico in Downtown Detroit to have tacos, drinks, and time without the kids! It allows me to have grown-up conversations with women who understand mom life, and helps me feel like a grown-up again 😉
Best Spring Destination or Event: Eastern Market (Detroit)
I love going to Eastern Market in the spring! They have fresh fruits and vegetables to purchase, handmade goods, food trucks, and even live musical performances. I also love checking out the murals that grace the buildings around the market. Eastern Market is a must for anyone in the Detroit area whenever it’s warm!
