Does the 2020 holiday shopping season have you stressed out? Have no fear! Hi – Kelsey, here! I had so much fun participating in LittleGuide Detroit’s #MomLife Series that I’m back to share some unique, *LOCAL* Michigan made holiday gifts sure to please at least one person on your list this year.

For a crafty kiddo …

I am *loving* all.the.things that local maker-mom Whitney of Acorn Handmade Co. has to offer, specializing in crocheted and hand-lettered gifts and decor. At the top of my list are her personalized chalkboards – they are a great fit for a variety of ages, and can be customized in all sorts of different ways, like the adorable dinosaur theme pictured!

Shop Acorn Handmade Co. on Etsy or via her IG – she’s always adding new items, including custom baby blankets and signs that are perfect for new or expecting mamas! Pricing: $27 and up

For mommy-and-me lovers …

If you’re like me, you can’t resist a good matching moment with your little. Enter:  Maisie Mae Boutique. Michigan maker Paige handmakes an array of patterned bows and accessories, including my favorite customizable letter bracelets and faux leather earrings (pictured!). You can shop her Instagram or her Etsy, where you’ll find cute new seasonal patterns popping up all the time. As a special treat, you can use my code, SMALLBATCH10 for 10% all purchases via her Etsy page too. Pricing: $6.50 and up

For some imagination stimulation…

Sensory kits are a major buzzword this year. I’m a huge fan, and trust me, you will be too! With Play Inside The Box – based in Birmingham – mom Becca pivoted her hobby of creating celebration boxes for her daughter into a business. She offers her signature ”invitation to play” boxes in a variety of festive and seasonal themes, like “Mermaid Cove” (pictured!),  as well as other handmade sensory goodies.

To make life easier, Play Inside The Box delivers within 10 miles of Birmingham. Use coupon code DETROITISH in her Etsy shop for $10 off your purchase (local orders only) of $35+ today! Pricing: $35

For budding artists …

I can’t get enough of these take-home seasonal art kits by The Art Attic in Plymouth. Sisters Bree and Jenny started this Art Studio and Event Space to share their love of art with local children, and added the take-home element so friends could bring the creative fun home. They offer a  bunch of opened-ended play, sensory play, and creative art options available for convenient, contact-free porch pickup at their Plymouth Township farmhouse.

New kits are available weekly on their site, and they’re always thinking of new and creative ways to keep your kiddos (and theirs!) busy these days. Pricing: $20 and up

For your best friend …

We can’t forget about gifting our girlfriends, teens, teachers, or, maybe even ourselves, LOL. I don’t know about you, but I’m not even close to over the tie-dye trend, and these two local makers offer something for every stylish lady on your list:

  • Lauren – a Farmington Hills mom of three – launched LovePeaceThreads during the COVID shutdown, and hasn’t stopped since. Her uniquely personalized graphic sweatshirts are hand-dyed and on trend. In addition to her trendy collection of colors,  the true treat with these are her quippy word art graphics. Some popular picks include “Cool Mom,” “Momster,” and the seasonally appropriate, “I Sleigh.” The best part is – customers can choose their color and phrase (pick one of hers, or personalize your own!), making the possibilities truly endless. Pricing: $50 each

  • Nikki of Bluefire Designs in Birmingham offers one-of-a-kind, hand-dyed designs that are as comfortable as they are fashionable, with  options for kiddos and the rest of the fam too. On my list: Her tie-dye infinity scarves! They’re the perfect way to dress up your quarantine casual look and a must for gifting! Buying multiples? She’s offering a holiday special this year: three scarves for $75. Teacher gifts: check and check! Pricing: $35 each

Have a local maker-mama that you love to shop? We’d love to hear! Tag @littleguidedetroit on Instagram and we’ll share. Happy holiday shopping season everyone!
