LittleGuide Families – Meagan (Grosse Pointe)

Meet Meagan
Kids: Frances (1)
Hometown: Grosse Pointe Park
My husband and I are both working parents—I’m an attorney and he is a project manager—so the time we have together as a family is really important. On weekdays, it’s controlled chaos trying to get everyone dressed, fed and out the door, but we also try to take time to play games, read books and sing songs (even if it’s before dawn). Weekends are much easier (although Frances still wakes us up just as early).
RED CROWN // GROSSE POINTE PARK
On Friday nights or weekends, we love to take Frances for an early dinner at Red Crown. It’s within walking distance of our house and no one cares if we park our stroller outside. When it’s warm, they have a great patio, where we can enjoy a beer or a glass of wine and Frances can be her lively, chatty self. It is a very family friendly scene and the wait staff is extremely warm and patient towards kids.
STORY TIME @ THE LIBRARY // GROSSE POINTE
The different branches of the amazing Grosse Pointe Public Libraries offer weekly story times. The librarians who run the program are remarkable and find ways to engage a roomful of young kids, which is kind of like herding cats! Story time is also a terrific option when the weather is rainy or cold and helps foster an early love of books and reading.
SWEET WALK AROUND TOWN // GROSSE POINTE
One of our favorite things to do on weekends is to take Frances and our golden doodle, Walter, for long walks around Grosse Pointe. There are lots of sights and sounds for Frances to take in and it also gives us a nice excuse to make a pit stop at one of our local bakeries, like Morning Glory Bakery or Cornwall Bakery, for pastries and coffee.
ALL POINTE’S FAMILY OUTDOOR MOVIE // HARRISON TOWNSHIP
Every August, there is a family movie shown outdoors on the Grosse Pointe South Football Field. The movies are often classics, like E.T. or Jurassic Park, and families bring snacks and blankets and watch the show under the stars. Frances is still too little to go, but we can’t wait to take her when she gets a little bigger.
“My parenting mantra is ‘This too shall pass.’ Kid won’t sleep? Kid hates her car seat? Kid only wants to eat apple sauce? This too shall pass. In the short time I’ve been a mom, I’ve come to realize that many of the challenging stages we’ve encountered have been phases that eventually ended.”
