Just like it’s necessary to stock our children’s libraries with diverse literature, it’s also important to do the same with…
Kids: Angelina (9), Anthony (7) & Joey (3)
Hometown: Shelby Township
I grew up in Shelby Township and have always loved the hometown feel of the community. When it came time to start a family of our own, my husband and I agreed Shelby would be the best place. While we love venturing out and exploring other communities, our outings with our children usually end up in Shelby.
JIMMY JOHNS FIELD // UTICA
Our family was so excited when the Jimmy John’s Baseball Field opened up in downtown Utica. We love going and watching minor league teams like the Utica Unicorns play on the weekends. My kids will eat a hot dog, enjoy some dip and dots, watch the game, then spend some time on the large playground. The stadium was designed with kids in mind. The stadium is clean and they have tons of food options for adults and kids.
CHERRY CREEK GOLF COURSE // SHELBY TOWNSHIP
Shelby has a wide variety of activities and sports for local kids to be a part of. Our children have played everything from soccer to tennis. This year they took up golf. Many Friday nights especially in the summer we will go to Cherry Creek Golf course and hit golf balls as a family on the driving range. We also like to go to nearby Mae Stecker Park and play tennis at night under the lights.
DA FRANCESCO’S ITALIAN RESTAURANT // SHELBY TOWNSHIP
A Shelby Township staple Italian restaurant and our personal favorite has always been Da Francesco’s. Their old world Italian Cuisine and family friendly atmosphere is a reason we continuously go back. They just relocated and the new building has a gorgeous patio with outdoor fireplaces. Our personal favorites include the calamari, veal parmesan, and chicken Mama Assunta. When visiting Shelby this is a must try.
APPLEFEST // UTICA
This favorite event of ours is hosted the second weekend in September by local church St. Lawrence. The church really goes all out. They have a large food tent with cuisine ranging from Polish, Italian, Lebanese and American. They have a large kids tent loaded with games and prizes, and tons of rides that will keep your child entertained for the whole day. We look forward to this weekend every year. They event is also very appealing to adults with a craft beer tent and casino room.
