National Fishing Week is June 1-10 and communities across metro Detroit are celebrating with fun family fishing events!

 

FISHING DERBY 
@ Riverside Park, Auburn Hills
Saturday, June 8 / 7:30am – 10:00am
The 16th Annual River Day Fishing Derby offers youths 16 & under a chance to fish and participate in this free annual contest on the banks of the Clinton River at Riverside Park. (Cost: Free)

 

FISHING DERBY
@ Waterford Bend Park, Northville
Saturday, June 8 / 8:00am – 10:00am
All kids ages 12 and younger are welcome to have some fishing fun with a casting contest and free fishing! All anglers need to bring their own equipment and bait. (Cost: Free)

 

FAMILY FISHING FUN DAY 
@ Crosswinds Marsh, New Boston
Saturday, June 8 / 9:00am – 12:00pm
Enjoy a free fishing day as part of the Department of Natural Resources Free Fishing Weekend, where fishing licenses are NOT required. Tackle tying and casting techniques will be offered for those first time fisher boys and girls. (Cost: Free)

 

SKIP’S FISHING DERBY
@ Bishop Park, Wyandotte
Saturday, June 1 / 10:00am – 12:00pm
This popular event typically draws over 200 participants for the derby, ranging from 5-13 years of age.  The Fishing Derby is a wonderful event that brings families and the community together to enjoy a day of fishing and fun. (Cost: Free)

 

FISH ‘N FUN DAY 
@ Heritage Park, Taylor
Saturday, June 8 / 11:00am – 3:00pm
Fish ‘n Fish Day combines education with the fishing experience for young people. Learn some great tips from experienced outdoorsmen and get a free goody bag that includes useful information about fishing. (Cost: Free)

 

FISHING FOR BEGINNERS 
@ Hudson Mills Metropark
Saturday, June 8 / 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Learn the basics of fishing on the banks of the Huron River. They will cover different types of tackle, some basic knots, and casting techniques.  The Metropark will provide bait and rods. If you want to try and catch your own bait, join us in the morning for Kids in the Creek. (Cost: $5)

 

GONE FISHING 
@ Cabela’s, Dundee
June 8 & 9, 15 &16 / 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Stop by Cabela’s and let your kids fish in the catch and release pond behind the store. There will also be crafts, photo-ops and giveaways! (Cost: Free)

 

RED FISH BLUE FISH TEACH KIDS TO FISH
@ Gallup Park, Ann Arbor
Sunday, June 9 / 9:30am – 11:00am
Join us for our state’s Free Fishing Weekend. Michigan offers some of the finest freshwater fishing with more than 36,350 miles of rivers and streams. Fishing poles, bait and instruction are provided. (Cost: $5)

 

KIDS FISHING FEST
@ Milliken State Park, Detroit
Sunday, June 9 / 12:00pm – 4:00pm
Parents, Grandparents, Guardians and Groups, come enjoy this special opportunity to spend quality time with the kids in your life and create fun lasting memories for your family. This is a FREE event and will include entertainment, games, activities, and more! (Cost: Free)

 

GO FISH 
@ Marshbank Park, West Bloomfield
Sunday, June 9 / 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Never been fishing before? No problem! We will have staff on hand with a limited number of fishing poles provided for hands-on instruction to get you and your child started. Play fishing games or win a fishing pole if you catch the smallest or the largest fish of the night. (Cost 9-12)
