Guide to Detroit Winter Blast

The Detroit Winter Blast is bringing snowy fun to downtown Detroit for 4 weekends, starting January 19th – here’s everything you need to know!

 

Need a reason to embrace the cold and get out of the house – the Detroit Winter Blast is back and better than ever! Head to Campus Martius (800 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226) for winter fun, live music, ice performances by local talent and more. This family-friendly event is great for all ages and while you’re downtown, don’t miss out on the other fun events taking place:

 

January 19 – 21

  • Saturday: 11am to 11pm
  • Sunday: 11am to 9pm
  • Monday: 11am to 8pm

 

ACTIVITIES:

Ice Sculpture Garden 
The Ice Garden will feature a variety of expertly crafted and lighted ice sculptures. Each weekend will feature a specific theme. The beautifully carved and lighted sculptures will make for festive scenery, perfect for memorable family photos. On-site ice carving demonstrations also will take place during the festival.

 

Family Fun Activities 
Family fun activities will take place on Saturday and Sunday of each weekend from 11am-6pm. In addition, family fun activities will also take place from 11am-6pm on Monday January 21st.  Watch music and magic shows and have hands-on fun with the Michigan Science Center!

 

FREE Skating @ The Rink 
Ice skate for free at the Rink, if you need to rent skates it costs $5

 

Marshmallow Roasting 
Buy a Marshmallow and S’more Kits that includes everything you need to roast tasty treats over the open fire puts. (Cost $3)

 

Local Music Showcase
Listen to local artist in the tent at Campus Martius.

 

January 25-27

  • Friday: 4pm to 11pm
  • Saturday: 11am to 11pm
  • Sunday: 11am to 8pm

City Slopes 
Michigan’s two largest ski resorts, Boyne Highlands of Harbor Springs and Boyne Mountain in Boyne Falls are bringing the snow and creating beginner slopes for 20 miniute ski and snowboard lessons. Event goers will have the opportunity to be fitted for ski or snowboard gear.

 

Family Fun Activities 
Community favorite Arts and Scraps will be hosting a fun make and take craft opportunity for families on January 26-27. Warm up inside the tent and make a fun sled craft courtesy of Chemical Bank! You can also watch fun interactive performances on the Chemical Bank Kids Stage.

 

The Rink 
Ice skate at the Rink (Admission is $10 for adults and $8 children 12 and under) and rent skates if needed ($5 per person). Present your same day original ticket stub for any of the following events for $2 off per admission per valid ticket stub (NAIAS, Detroit Red Wings Game, Detroit Pistons Game)

Special Olympics Polar Plunge 
Take the plunge and jump into a polar pool to support the Special Olympics or cheer on those brave enough to try. Plungers will receive a coupon for a free hot chocolate and a coupon for free skate rental. (Cost $10)

Zip Line Adventure 
Soar through the air and fly over the Winter Blast. Thrill-seekers will be lining up to experience the ultimate rush of flying 300 feet across the sky — the length of a football field! This festival feature is the longest, fastest mobile zip line available and allows two people to zip simultaneously on two lines 34 feet in the air. (Cost per ride – $10)
