Social distancing can feel strange and confusing for kids so it’s more important than ever to be creative and find unique ways to stay connected with friends and family. Strengthen bonds and maintain your entire family’s mental health with these easy ways to reach out and connect with loved ones.

Play, play, play

Keep it simple and build connections at home as a family. Get messy, go outside, or get silly and get moving. Another fun and easy idea is to start a new family ritual such a morning “circle time”, afternoon family meditation, or a weekly family game night.

Be Creative and Connect on a Deeper Level

Bond with friends, family members, and your local community with these are unique and fun ways to build deeper connections.

  • Schedule consistent Facetime calls, send photos, or email loved ones.
  • Create a drawing or write a letter to grandparents, friends, teachers, or a local nursing home.
  • Do a virtual dance party or playdate with your little one’s closest friends.
  • Invite friends or family to a virtual dinner party.
  • Host a virtual book club or movie night.
  • Spread joy and love in your local neighborhood by joining in on the #RainbowsOverMichigan movement, hang motivating signs in your windows, or doodle inspirational messages in sidewalk chalk outside your home.
  • Send a small toy or book to a special child in your life or an elder adult who lives on their own.

Attend a Virtual Class

A live virtual class is a great way for kids and parents to feel connected to the outside world. From storytimes to art classes to virtual field trips, these are our favorite ways to stay engaged while stuck at home.
