National Fire Prevention Week is October 3rd – 9th and across the country fire stations are opening their doors to let families see their equipment and learn about fire safety. Let your littles see their favorite trucks and learn how to be safe in case of an emergency at these fire station events around town.

Things remain different this year and since some community fire departments aren’t hosting events this year, we wanted to remind you that you can still visit your local station. Last year, we asked LittleGuide Detroit families to pick up a sweet treat and make a special delivery to their local Fire Department to thank them for their service and ask for a fire prevention tip or two. Firefighters live at the fire station when they are on duty and always happy to have visitors. They might let you sit on the truck, run the siren for you or even let you play with the hose!

You can also visit the Michigan Firehouse Museum! Walk through the restored firehouse, view 25 changing exhibits of antique fire trucks and early fire rigs, multiple displays of historic artifacts including tools, equipment, memorabilia, and the largest collection of fire truck bells in the country! The museum is open Thursday thru Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5 to 11 and free for kids 4 and under.
