Find FREE Family Art-Making Workshops At The Detroit Institute of Arts

You can do more than admire art at the Detroit Institute of Arts, you can also create it at FREE family-friendly drop-in workshops.
Rich in history and culture and FREE to tri-county residents – the Detroit Institute of Arts is the perfect place to spend time with kids. Explore the galleries, find inspiration AND create your own art. Drawing in the Galleries and Drop-In Workshops will be offered two weekend a month with rotating themes and all materials supplied.
Save the date for Saturday, June 11th and check out the New York International Children’s Film Festival: Kid Flicks One.
Drop-in Workshops will be held on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm in the art-making studio. These fun and accessible art-making experiences are for all ages. Art projects rotate throughout the year, focusing on current exhibitions, creative work from different cultures, various techniques, and concepts of identity—all designed to be completed within 15–45 minutes. Capacity is limited and proof of vaccination is required.
Drawing in the Galleries returns to Friday nights from 6pm to 8:30pm in various locations throughout the museum. During this program, artists and instructors from the DIA’s Studio Department will be on hand to help visitors create unique pencil drawings to take home while taking a closer look at the collection. No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.
