The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge runs from the lower Detroit River, 20 miles south of the city, and 48 miles along the western shore of Lake Erie. It consists of 6,000 acres of land in Wayne and Monroe counties and the Gateway opened to the public this fall.

Explore nature at the only international wildlife refuge in North America. The Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge is located along the Detroit River and features new and established trails, boardwalks and watch points. The newly finished John D. Dingell Visitor Center is now open to the public Thursday through Sunday from 9am to 4pm! Explore fun displays about local nature and how everyone can “Be a Conservation Hero”.

Looking to make your trip educational? Download the Junior Ranger Activity Book or The Agents of Discovery app. The free mobile app offers kids virtual and real adventures to try at the Humbug Marsh Nature Trail and Refuge Gateway fishing pier.

There is no cost to explore the Gateway and there is plenty of parking.
