GS: Trees In Winter
Saturday, February 19 @ 11:00 am - 3:30 pm

Discover the science and history of maple sugaring! Identifying a tree is harder once the leaves are off, but scouts will find out what to look for as we explore our nine-acre sugar bush in search of maple trees to tap. After tapping a tree, we will learn how maple sugaring has changed over time as we visit Native American and pioneer sugaring camps, and then stop by the Sugar Shack to see syrup made on a small-scale modern evaporator.
Scouts will see, touch, and smell as they achieve a higher level of understanding about trees and maple sugaring.
Programs begin every half hour, last approximately one hour, and are entirely outdoors. Participants will walk approximately a quarter of a mile over uneven ground.
