Belle Isle is a fantastic place to observe the changing seasons, encounter wildlife and admire unique flora. Whether it’s the birds singing in the spring, the insects calling in the summer, the striking fall colors or the glistening snow in the winter, there’s always an endless array of nature to take in on our hikes.
Our group meets at the Belle Isle Nature Center at 10:30 a.m. on hike days and we drive or walk to our hiking location. These hikes are great for families or anyone who wants to connect with nature. All ability levels are welcome. We stay together as a group and our pace is the speed of the slowest participant. Please dress according to the weather and be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. You may also wish to bring sunscreen, water and insect repellant.
Once the hike is over, groups are encouraged to enjoy the other attractions the area offers such as the nature center, Dossin Great Lakes Museum, Belle Isle Aquarium, Belle Isle Conservatory the James Scott Memorial Fountain, the beach and the playscape. While the hikes are FREE, a recreation passport is required to gain entry to the island at $11.
