2021 Michigan Archaeology Day
Saturday, October 23 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pmFREE
Have you ever thought about what it’s like to be an archaeologist? Here’s your chance to talk to archaeologists about investigations and buried artifacts that tell the story of 14,000 years of Michigan history!
The exhibit returns, with most activities taking place outdoors, rain or shine.
Archaeologists working across Michigan will set up, tailgate-style, in the parking lot, where they will tell you about their research, show you some of the artifacts they have found and answer your questions.
At 1 p.m., stop by the auditorium (face mask required) to hear the Michigan History Center’s maritime archaeologist, Wayne Lusardi, speak about the legacy of the World War II Tuskegee airmen in the Great Lakes, including a pilot and airplane lost in Lake Huron.
Do you have an artifact that you want to know more about? If it fits in a shoebox, bring it to our “Archaeology Roadshow!” Experts in archaeology, geology and paleontology will assess your finds and teach you how to report sites.
