Earth Day is Monday, April 22nd and there’s plenty of events that will help us get our kids outside and involved with fun activities that give thanks to Mother Earth and all that she has to offer.

 

EARTH DAY @ WAYNE COUNTY PARKS
SATURDAY, APRIL 13
NANKIN MILLS INTERPRETIVE CENTER, WESTLAND @ 12:00pm – 4:00pm
Cost: FREE
Live animal shows, music, crafts, speakers and educational demonstrations will all be a part of the FREE family fun! All ages welcome.

 

TRICERATOPS PUPPET THEATRE-THE STORY OF EARTH DAY

DINOSAUR HILLS NATURE PRESERVE, ROCHESTER HILLS@ 10:30am – 12:00pm

There’s no better place to spend Earth Day than at Dinosaur Hills Nature Center and no better person to help teach you about recycling than Relish the Raccoon. While there, you will get the chance to put together your own crazy recycled earth day art project and then go out and enjoy the sight, sounds and smells.

What better way to celebrate Earth Day than by spending time enjoying nature!  Come explore the Nature Room and Outdoor Natural Play Area. Celebrate Mother Earth with the many activities available, including:

  • Guided nature hikes at 4:30 and 5:30 pm (must pre-register for hikes)
  • Recycled craft
  • A FREE tree seedling to the first 50 pre-registered children
  • Live animal interactions
  • Vendor activities and displays
  • Explore in Nature Room (with native live animals) and Outdoor Natural Play Area
  • A visit from our friend Rocky from Paw Patrol

CELEBRATE EARTH DAY WITH FREE ADMISSION @ MICHIGAN SCIENCE CENTER

Learn more about how earth works at the Michigan Science Center! With live stage shows, a planetarium, 250+ hands-on exhibits, lab activities, special exhibits and more, there are approximately two dozen ways to customize your MiSci visit.

Come on out to OAC to celebrate Earth Day and learn about the positive and negative impact that our everyday actions have on our planet. Guests will have the opportunity to participate in various family-friendly activities to help the Earth, including making reusable shopping bags from old t-shirts, sampling environmentally friendly cleaning products, and making a craft with recycled materials from Arts & Scraps!

In observance of the global holiday celebrating life on our planet, this annual celebration includes earth-friendly crafts, games, storytelling, keeper talks and exhibits by local conservation groups.

 

EARTH DAY PARK CLEANUP

WATERFORD PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT@ 8:00am – 8:00pm
Cost: FREE
Kick off the spring season by gathering with friends and family on Earth Day to clean up one of your favorite local parks in Waterford. The Parks and Recreation Department will supply each park with garbage bags and any necessary equipment for the cleanup.

 

EARTH DAY AT DINOSAUR HILL

DINOSAUR HILL NATURE PRESERVE, ROCHESTER HILLS @ 4:30pm – 6:00pm

Com on out to Dinosaur Hill for a celebratory day where we will be putting together hiking sticks, recycled crafts, and meeting some interesting animals before heading out into the woods with a naturalist for a very special hike. All participants will receive a special Earth day pin!

The MI Earth Day Fest is one of the planet’s largest and liveliest Earth Day celebrations. This high-profile community event highlights the efforts of area businesses and community organizations to Make Every Day, Earth Day. The festival offers a wide variety of exhibits, attractions and activities.

Sprout the love of reading and nature during the For-Mar Story Time. This month’s story time will have students exploring how you can be a superhero for mother earth in our Earth Day, Every Day story time at the treehouse! Students explore nature through stories, crafts and song!

 

EARTH DAY 5k & KIDS RUN

ROCHESTER AVON RECREATION AUTHORITY, ROCHESTER @ 8:30am – 11:00am
Cost: $12.50-25
Join us to celebrate Earth Day at the 14th Annual MI EarthdayFest! Participate in a 5K along a scenic loop route through municipal park and the neighboring subdivision. All ages are welcome and the route is friendly for pets and strollers. The race will be chip timed and have awards for each age division along with raffle give-a-ways from our sponsors. Participation awards include, race tech shirts, medallions, and a plant for you to take home from the race.
