Cranbrook Institute of Science is one of our favorite places in metro Detroit and their latest exhibit – Treasure! – offers a golden opportunity to plan your next visit.

An educational and entertaining exhibit, Treasure! explores the history of treasure and treasure hunting, the technology employed in hunting treasure, as well as the people and personalities that hunt for treasure. Treasure! has seven thematic areas, including underwater treasure, treasures in the attic, buried treasure, gold rushes, protecting treasure, treasure in popular culture, and the modern treasure hunt. A dozen hands-on activities allow the visitor to try tools of treasure hunting and investigate treasures. Special exhibit features include actual artifacts from shipwrecks and other treasure sites.

The exhibition also features rare and ancient artifacts from the Institute’s private collection, which includes pieces from Michigan, Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America and Central America. Attendees will have the chance to explore a cannon discovered in the Detroit River, unique jewelry, weaponry and tools, hand-crafted houseware items and more.

Treasure! is open during regular museum hours and has an additional cost, $3 – $5 per person. This temporary exhibit runs May 28 through September 4, 2022.

Cranbrook Institute of Science is open Wednesday thru Sunday. Tickets for adults are $13 and children ages 2 to 12 are $9.50.
