The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) is for FAMILIES. In addition to offering kids great educational opportunities, caregivers can sign up for FREE courses through the virtual Parent Academy.
The Parent Academy is a FREE resource for caregivers to build capacity and confidence to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Classes are offered each week Monday through Friday in morning, afternoon and evening. The Parent Academy focuses on three key pillars: Student Achievement, Personal and Professional Development, and Parenting/Advocacy. Topics include:
- Navigating the School System (examples: requesting interpreters,
- Physical, Oral + Mental Health
- Employment, Entreprenuership + Skill Building
- STEAM Opportunities + Montessori
The courses are open to the public but DPSCD Parents are eligible for participation incentives that include swag, family nights and gift certificates.
