7 Ways to Virtually Experience Michigan’s Top Destinations

In these unprecedented times, Pure Michigan wants to share some ways to virtually experience the state. From live cams of beautiful beaches to virtual tours of cultural institutions, we can all use a little escape these day and there’s no better trip (albeit virtually) than right here in our own state!
For those looking to explore nature from the comfort of their home, Pure Michigan offers live web cameras where people can take a peek at what’s happening all over the state at ski resorts, up at the Mackinac Bridge, in West Michigan and more.
View the galleries and works of art from the Detroit Institute of Arts at home. Visit the DIA’s website to explore more than 60,000 works online, including favorites like the Detroit Industry Murals, Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait and Bruegel’s The Wedding Dance, among thousands of others you may never have seen in person.
The Ann Arbor Film Festival is going virtual March 24-29. The entire festival will be live-streamed for free including films and discussions, the schedule can be found here.
The Henry Ford Museum is an internationally recognized cultural destination that immerses visitors in the stories of ingenuity, resourcefulness and innovation that helped shape America. The Henry Ford Museum offers a digital collection where you can explore artifacts and stories like the very bus where Rosa Parks protested segregation laws and the first car built by Henry Ford.
The Michigan History Museum offers information about Michigan’s rich past, from the time of the state’s earliest peoples to the late 20th century. The five-floor museum offers a virtual tour for folks to explore and learn about Michigan’s first people, the Anishinaabe and ending at the mid-20th century.
The Michigan Science Center strives to inspire curious minds of all ages to discover, explore and appreciate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The museum puts on a live virtual science experiment on Facebook daily for kids of all ages to watch from home.
The Menominee Range Historical Museums in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula encompasses three different museums for guests to explore. Each museum offers a virtual tour including The Menominee Range Historical Museum which features more than 100 exhibits depicting local history from Native American inhabitants through the early years of the 20th century; The World War II Gilder and Military Museum which features one of only seven fully-restored CG-4A gliders in the world, as well as extensive displays highlighting military service in the area; and the Cornish Pumping Engine and Mining Museum which showcases the largest steam-driven pumping engine built in the United States.
Pure Michigan would also like to echo actions that can be done to support small businesses which are essential to the livelihoods of so many people and the fabric of many places to consider supporting through purchasing gift cards, visiting websites and showing encouragement on social media and review sites.
