Traverse City offers family fun all year long. Whether you’re looking to relax along Grand Traverse Bay or race down the hills on skis – it’s always a good time to go to TC.

Here are 6 things everyone must do when they visit Traverse City:

Eat cherries

Traverse City is known for cherries and the annual summer National Cherry Festival (July) attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. The U-pick season runs from early June to mid-August, here’s a list of local farms to visit.  No matter when you’re in Traverse City, the fruit can be found in sweet and savory dishes on every menu. Here are a few favorites:

Mission Point Lighthouse

Lighthouses helped guide and protect mariners for generations. Climb the Mission Point Lighthouse and learn about what life was like as a lighthouse keeper 150 years ago.

Go for a Swim in Grand Traverse Bay

The crystal clear water is hard to beat and there are lots of shoreline and beaches to choose from but Clinch Park is our favorite because it’s located near the downtown center, has kayak/boat rental, a splash pad and bathrooms!

Great Lakes Children’s Museum

The Great Lakes Children’s Museum is the perfect pit stop for kids ages 1 to 8, the hands-on museum gives kids the space to learn about life in the Great Lakes and play!

Stay at a Resort

There are lots of places to stay in Traverse City but Great Wolf Lodge and Grand Traverse Resort offer family amenities, including indoor water parks, that make your trip extra special.

Sleeping Bear Dunes

A trip to Traverse City isn’t complete with out a visit to the breath-taking coastal shoreline. Pack a picnic and take a drive to explore the diverse terrain of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park on foot, in a boat or wearing snowshoes.
