You don’t have to travel far to have fun. Take a road trip to Grand Rapids for a family adventure this winter. From interactive installations downtown to hilltop tubing, there’s something for everyone.

World of Winter Festival

Downtown Grand Rapids transforms into a dazzling winter wonderland every January and February. This year’s World of Winter Festival (Jan. 6-March 5) is bigger and better than ever, with 40+ interactive art installations, 50+ ice sculptures, live entertainment and family-friendly games – all outdoors and all free.

Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink

Skate downtown at Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink. Admission includes skate rental and is $2 for youths and $4 for adults. Season passes and punchcards are also available. The rink is open until February 26 and is open daily, weather permitting.

Explore The Meijer Gardens

Reserve your spot at Meijer Gardens and explore art and nature while getting in your #1000HoursOutside. Plan your visit for the downtown ice festival and visit the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden for a wintertime walk.

Winter Sports @ Cannonsburg

Head to Cannonsburg for skiing, snowboarding, winter biking and snow tubing! Tubing tickets are good for 2 hours and the magic carpet carries you to the top of the hill, allowing for maximum downhill tubing runs.

Downtown Museum Hop

Tour kid-friendly exhibits at downtown museums, all within a 10-minute walk of each other. The Power of Poison at the Grand Rapids Public Museum (thru April) is an interactive exploration of the good and bad of poison. The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum presents Molly of Denali: An Alaskan Adventure (Jan.- May), based on the PBS KIDS tv series. The Grand Rapids Art Museum has a variety of family-friendly programming available too.
