3 Reasons to Keep Your Kids Swimming After Summer

The sun is out and we can still wear shorts (!?) but indeed, summer is officially over. With public pools and splash pads now closed for the season, you’ll need to think about new ways to get your little fishes in the water in these colder months.
And just because the summer months have passed, doesn’t mean water safety for our kids comes to an end! Actually, it’s a great time to head indoors, sign up for swim classes and hone in on those swimming skills that will come in handy next summer.
Continuing exposure to water and swim instruction beyond the summer months is important for kids to develop and maintain critical water safety skills. Here are some reasons that families SHOULD NOT put away their swimsuits and SHOULD start making plans for swimming in their fall and winter schedules.
- Practice makes perfect. Kids need regular, consistent lessons in order to make progress with their swim skills. A weekly swim lesson is the best way to build that regular practice into your family’s schedule.
- Swimming is good for kids. This lifelong skill provides kids with an outlet for exercise while teaching a very important skill of water safety. Swimming lessons provide a technical, whole body form of exercise and keeps kids active — especially great during the slower winter months.
- It’s FUN! In swim class, students play games, interact with their peers and learn to love (and be safe in) the water. And it’s a lot more fun when class is held in a tropical environment with a 90-degree pool that ensures infants and children are comfortable, allowing them to focus on what matters most: having fun while becoming stronger swimmers.
As we head into the fall and your littles start to miss their summer trips to the pool, it’s the perfect time to jump back in and continue with their swimming skills and lessons. Swim classes can be found throughout the various communities, but we love the convenience, community and lessons offered at Goldfish Swim School (find a class near you below).
Goldfish Swim School helps kids develop life skills both in and out of the water using play-based learning in a fun and safe environment. In a class size of no more than 4 children to 1 swim instructor, children master the skills they need to be safer and confident in the water. Goldfish Swim School offers classes for kids as young as 4 months and has 7 locations in metro Detroit.
