2020 Chanukah Events In Metro Detroit

The Festival of Lights (also known as Hanukkah, Chanukah or Hannukkah) begins on December 10th and there are lots of events happening around town. Here’s a list of virtual and in-person events + activity boxes to to make sure you enjoy 8 “not too crazy” nights!
Virtual Chanukah Hebrew School Carnival
December 6th & 13th
This Chanukah carnival extravaganza is everything you need to have an awesome Chanukah, complete with arts and crafts booths, carnival games, music, entertainment, and learning all about Chanukah. The carnival will be open all the time for your enjoyment with special programs from 11 am-12 PM on Sundays, December 6th, and December 13th.
Menorah in the D – Lamplighter Kit (Detroit)
December 7th – 10th // 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Chanukah is the holiday of light… Be a Lamplighter as you kindle your Menorah and spread the warmth and joy of the holiday to those you know. Sign up here to reserve your Lamplighter Kit with Chanukah candles, postcards, Gelt, Limited Edition Menorah in the D lighter, guide, cookies and more (Menorahs available as well)!
December 9th – 15th
This Chanukah bring your family into Aish for a live Chanukah experience. Pick a pop in time between December 9-15th and chose between a Chanukah fun room for younger families and a Chanukah escape room for older families.
Menorah Workshop @ the Home Depot (Troy)
Thursday, December 10 // 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Head to the Home Depot to pick up a free grand Menorah workshop kit for some holiday fun!
Virtual Menorah in the D (Detroit)
Thursday, December 10th // 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Watch as we light up the Menorah for the 10th year in a row! While spectators cannot watch live this year, the lighting will be livestreamed. We will also be adding a ton of fun items to enhance your home viewing party.
December 10 – 18
It’s not just a Chanukah in a Box. It’s a whole Chanukah plan plus! Sign up now and get a go-to box with activities for each night and it’ll be delivered by The Dreidel Man!
Chanukah of Gratitude (Huntington Woods)
Saturday, December 12th // 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Join the first public Menorah lighting in Huntington Woods! CHANUKAH of GRATITUDE Honoring our front line workers & first responders. This will be a drive- in event, a zoom link is also available upon request. Special visit from our Police and Fire Departments – Bring a thank you card to hand them as they walk by and give out Dreidel Hot Cocoa Bombs to each car! PJs and outrageous Chanukah sweaters optional.

Join an outdoor Chanukah celebration with ChabaD of Greater Detroit.
Outdoor Menorah Lighting (Commerce)
Sunday, December 13 // 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
The Chabad Jewish Center in Commerce is hosting a Free outdoor socially distanced Menorah Lighting. There will also be a package to go for our attendees with treats such as Latkes, Donuts, and more! RSVP requested.
Drive-In Menorah Lighting (Troy)
Sunday, December 13 // 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Join us this Chanukah and celebrate in a completely safe way. Everyone will gather from the safety of their cars to watch the lighting of a giant 12ft Menorah followed by a fantastic fire show and live Chanukah music. Enjoy a Chanukah bag delivered to your car!
Chanukah Wonderbag (West Bloomfield)
Sunday, December 13
Sign up for your Chanukah Wonderbag (deadline is Tuesday, December 8th). The package has supplies for up to 3 kids and includes fried donut ingredients, beeswax candle craft, puppets, Gelt, Dreidels, coloring sheets and more!
Drive-In Menorah Lighting (Royal Oak)
Sunday, December 13 // 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Reserve your spot for the ‘most epic’ drive in menorah lighting in Downtown Royal Oak. It will be a special event to come together as a community to celebrate the power of light.
Tuesday, December 15th
Have a fun 15 minute Chanukah Party on your driveway with the Chanukah LED truck! Invite your family, friends or neighbors! There will be free latkes & doughnuts, LED Chanukah Gelt Challenge,
Chanukah crafts and more!
